We believed that family strategy games, which are based on offering players choices instead of asking them to rely on luck, should be available to players. This was the initial motivation for us to start thinking about founding Rio Grande Games. Knowing that such games had been successful in Germany, we wanted to make them available to people in the US as well. After some investigation, we decided to begin publishing English versions of these choice-driven games so that English-speaking players could enjoy them. This led us to launch Rio Grande Games with the purpose of accomplishing just that.

The core of our thinking in starting Rio Grande Games was the conviction that family strategy games focused on player choices, rather than luck, were a valuable offering that should be accessible. We recognized that these types of games had found an enthusiastic audience in Germany, and we were determined to bring that experience to the US market.

To realize this goal, we conducted some research to understand the landscape. Based on our findings, we concluded that the best path forward was to publish English adaptations of the successful choice-based games already popular in Germany. This would allow English-speaking players to access and appreciate the gameplay we believed in. With this plan in place, we officially established Rio Grande Games, committed to making these thoughtful strategy experiences available to a wider audience.

The founding of Rio Grande Games, then, stemmed directly from our belief that players deserved access to family-oriented strategy games centered on meaningful choices, not chance. Observing the success of such titles in Germany, we were motivated to make that same style of gameplay accessible to English-speaking consumers. After conducting the necessary research, we determined that publishing translations would be the most effective way to achieve this goal. This realization led us to launch Rio Grande Games, with the mission of bringing these choice-driven strategy experiences to players in the US and beyond.
